An Awesome Time At The 2015 Montreal Comiccon

This past weekend (July 3rd to the 5th) was the Montreal Comiccon and was it ever fun! They had amazing guests, artists, exhibitors, and activities for everyone to enjoy and it was such a thrill to be included in such an amazing ensemble.

On Friday I had the pleasure of giving my workshop Witches, Werewolves, and Wraiths: A Writer’s Guide to Monster Making (you can see the handout for it here) to an amazing audience. The room, which was even bigger than the one I’d had for Bikinis, Brains, and Boogeymen: How to Write Realistic Women in Horror (you can find the notes for it here), was nearly full and the group was so enthusiastic. There were some familiar faces from the previous workshop I’d done in Montreal, and new attendees I hope to see again next year. Everyone had such great questions and it was so fun getting to meet people after the presentation.

On Sunday Sterling Tipton and I presented The Women of Walt: Villains, Virgins, and Gender Conventions in Disney (which was created in part with our close friend, and incredible writer, Samantha Curran who unfortunately couldn’t attend the convention over the weekend). It was fun to present, but wasn’t without its complications.

Unfortunately for the two of us the projector wasn’t working properly and our slideshow (which took the three of us forever to put together) was unviewable. Despite this fact we did our best to present all our research and our critical approach to viewing women in Disney and I sincerely hope that people enjoyed it. (Also, if anyone wants a copy of the slideshow feel free to email me and I’ll be happy to send it your way.)

All in all it was an incredible convention and I hope to be back again next year with another (hopefully helpful) workshop.
